Did read something about instant wake-up button, so it appears that some manual intervention is required to wake up the green outlets if you don’t want to wait an average of 15 minutes for the unit to check status and power on.

Update : Went to iGo website to look for more information. I have a feeling that Al Gore designed this thing seeing how it may be a completely useless and that all proceeds go into his pocket either as carbon credits or cold, green cash. And I am still not convinced that this unit could detect when a wall wart is not actually being used. On average, one would have to wait 15 minutes just for power to be restored once the iGo detects a load. I don’t see how that would work or even be user friendly. But what I’ve read seems to indicate that this thing checks the green outlets every 30 minutes. Wall warts will eventually burn out and fail when plugged in continuously. Seems to be the only real benefit I can see if it works that way.

So if you plug a wall wart into this thing on the green side, does it power off the wall wart when not in use. 25,000 Connected Equipment Warranty offers replacement or repair for devices damaged while connected to surge protector. Thinking about getting just two? Then instead consider the Belkin Pivot six outlet model with two USBs via Amazon at : Belkin Surge Protector 6 Outlet With USB: Electronics, or the Belkin Mini with two USB chargers (with enough power to charge an iPad). As such, I’m ordering a few more as in orders of four ir six via this WOot, they’re less expensive than the comparable, standard Belkin (that run $8-12 each on Amazon and Buy.com). When you order four, the Woot is a good value. I also like that they have side outlets, which makes it easier for recessed and behind-appliance areas You may save power, working best for phone and computer charging: we use them for our home recharging station.

Surge protectors are a bit more expensive. While common power strips and surge protectors look similar, not all power strips are surge protectors. These iGo models work as promoted, but they’re no magic box. Connecting a device to a surge protector provides more protection than simply connecting it to a wall outlet. I have a couple of these in place today in addition to comparable standard four and six outlet, grounded surge protectors (the Belkin SurgeMaster and Pivot models). Any device that could cause injury or damage (power saws, lawn mowers, etc.Net: this Woot is a good deal if you’re ordering more than two. Having a USB port on the surge protector eliminates the need to use a charging brick to charge mobile devices or other USB-powered devices. 6 Ft Surge Protector Power Strip - 8 Widely Outlets with 4 USB Ports, 3 Side Outlet Extender with 6 Feet Extension Cord, Flat Plug, Wall Mount, Desk USB Charging Station, ETL,White 4.
